Poppy Mifsud

Year 7 Homeroom Teacher
English and History Teacher

With a solid educational foundation, including a PGCE from Durham University, an MA Hons in Ancient History, and an MSc in Classical Art and Archaeology, this first-year ECT has effectively taught Geography, History, and Classics to Years 5-8 (ages 9-13). Renowned for being a fun and innovative educator, they strive to inspire and engage pupils, creating a safe and supportive classroom environment. Senior colleagues have praised their ability to animate historical content, using adaptive strategies and tactile learning to simplify complex concepts like the passage of time. They employ creative methods such as a Thomas Becket CSI crime scene, Henry VIII letter writing, ‘Ben Hur Bingo,’ and WWII rations planning to immerse students in history. Dyslexic themselves, they prioritize inclusive teaching while stretching the most able pupils, drawing on experience from a special educational needs school to adapt to diverse educational and emotional needs. They advocate for collaborative work, actively contributing to the development of schemes and lesson plans with department heads, and exhibit a proactive, supportive attitude within the school community.
